Welcome to MBS Athletic Program
Welcome to MBS Athletics! Athletics can be an important part of a young person's life. It teaches discipline and self-pride while helping one realize the importance of cooperation. Athletics interact with the spiritual, social and academic components of the overall school program. MBS recognizes that support from the administration, faculty, staff, coaches, parents and fans are necessary in providing a positive Catholic athletic experience for the student athlete. At MBS all students in kindergarten through 8th grade will be given the chance to participate in extra-curricular athletic team competition. There is something for everyone. We pride ourselves in developing young athletes to be good role models both on and off the competitive playing field. We stress good sportsmanship by all (players and parents). Volunteer coaches take their time to understand who each player is while recognizing their abilities and assuring each athlete feels part of the MBS team. This, in turn, creates a positive team atmosphere and a winning attitude that everyone in the MBS community can be proud of.
At MBS we have many sports for our students to choose from. Starting in 3rd grade our 3rd and 4th grade boys and girls may participate in tackle football or pep squad. Starting in 5th grade, boys may participate in school tackle football, cross country, basketball and track. Girls may participate in basketball, cross country, volleyball and track. We also offer swim team as a school sport for grades 5th-8th. Swim practices and meets will take place at Crawfish Aquatics. New to MBS this year will be girls' middle school soccer, grades 5th-8th.
Flag football begins in the fall and is offered to girls and boys grades K-2nd. Basketball begins in December and T-ball and machine pitch begin in the spring and are offered to boys and girls grades K-4th. Adult co-ed slow pitch softball is offered in the summer. These sports are offered through our parish and anyone, even a non-MBS student may participate. Parent volunteers are always welcomed and needed to assist in these intramural programs.
If you have any questions about any of our sports programs here at MBS please call or email the MBS Athletic Department.
I hope you will consider participating in one of our many extra-curricular teams here at MBS.
As the new school year approaches we also gear up for the start of the Fall sports season. The Fall sports at MBS include boys tackle football (3rd-8th grades), girls' basketball (5th-8th grades), cross country (5th-8th grades), swim team (5th-8th grades) and pep squad (3rd-4th grades). If your child is interested in participating in one of these Fall sports at MBS please remember they must have an LHSAA physical, signed by a physician, on file with the athletic department before they are allowed to attend any tryouts, practices or games. Physicals are considered current for one calendar year and expire on the last day of the month of the previous physical.
The mandatory parent meetings for football, cross country and girls' basketball will be Sunday, August 6 in the MBS Gym.
The Cross Country meeting will be 5pm-5:30pm, with sign-ins beginning at 4:45pm.
The Girls' Basketball meeting will be 5:45pm-6:15pm, with sign-ins beginning at 5:30pm.
The Football meeting will begin at 6:30pm with sign-ins beginning at 6:15pm.
Please make plans to attend these mandatory parent meetings if your child is interested in participating in one of these sports. If your child is interested in participating in swim team or pep squad we will have a separate meeting for those sports, TBA.
Both the physical form and the registration packet for your child's sport may be found online at mbsbr.org under the athletics tab. Registration packets for basketball, football and cross country are due back on August 7th, which is also the first day of football practices. Registration packets for swim team and pep squad are due back on August 11th.
